One more team is in Playoffs, one more spot to be filled
WILKES-BARRE – The Aug. 24 dance card is nearly full.
Lyons became the third team to clinch a divisional championship and a spot in the 2010 Summer League Playoffs. It defeated MLC, 5-3, and combined with a Goody’s loss to JEMM, clinched the Stove Division. Lyons will face Fifteen in the Smith Conference Finals at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24.
Fifteen (Steamboat Division champs) and C&Ds (Chestnut) each clinched a spot in the post-season last week, leaving just the Buckwheat Division to be decided between two teams, Stone Cold and Blind Squirrels.
On Tuesday, Team RAMROD was eliminated from that division race when it was defeated by WINOs, 7-2. WINOs has finished the season as one of the league’s hottest teams, and remains tied with Boss Hog-Line in the ultra-competitive Chestnut Division.
In other Week 11 action, Schoolhouse Rocks!
Two teams clinch post-season; five more fight for last two spots
WILKES-BARRE — Two teams clinched half of the four Playoffs berths available in the 2010 Summer League after earning victory in Week 10 action.
With only one loss on its record, C&Ds clinched the Chestnut Division and top seed in the Fell Conference by defeating Schoolhouse Rocks!, 8-2. They will play the eventual winner of the Buckwheat Division at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 in the League Semifinals.
Like so many teams have this year, Schoolhouse Rocks! was able to hang with the league’s top performers through about half the draw, but could not maintain that play at the end of the night. C&Ds scored four in the final end to break away for the win and a spot in the post-season.
Also clinching on Tuesday night was Fifteen in the Steamboat Division. After sustaining a two-game losing streak at the halfway point of their season, Fifteen has streaked to the division crown, and a spot in the Smith Conference Finals on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Fifteen took down Blarney, 10-4, and clinched the division. It was the team’s third-straight win, a streak which started with a 4-2 win over Lyons back in Week 7. (more…)

Thinking Playoffs? Only 4 more Regular Season dates remaining
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Things have gotten a bit more interesting as Anthracite Curling Club appears set to add four Wild Card positions to the 2010 Summer League Playoffs.
Now, tonight’s draws have added implications as teams continue jockeying for possible additional playoff spots. Nothing has been set in stone (pun intended), but it appears the Playoffs will be played over two weeks, but what two additional teams per conference has yet to be determined.

The addition to the Playoffs keeps just about every single team in the Summer League alive for a postseason berth. There are just three weeks of draws remaining in the regular season after tonight.
Six draws start at 6 p.m. at The Ice Rink at Coal Street Park. (more…)
Chestnuts Roasting: WINOs wins 4th straight; C&Ds, BHL keep winning
Let’s compare one more thing to the actual heat outside … the race for the lead in the Chestnut Division standings, and that playoff berth.
After action in Week 8 of Anthracite Curling Club’s 2010 Summer league, C&Ds still has the lead it’s held from the beginning of the season, but two teams have formally announced their presence in the race.
Eddie Perrino has his troops ready for battle after suffering their first defeat last week. His C&Ds squad knocked Schuylkill Squirrels from the top spot in the Buckwheat Division with a 13-4 win. C&Ds suddenly faces some stiff competition in the Chestnut Division, with two hot teams following right behind them. (more…)
